11 Tips to Help Your Child Learn Better and Enjoy the Process

You want your child to succeed in school, but you don’t want them to cram all night and learn in a robotic way.

Here are some ways you can help your child learn better and enjoy the process.

1. Make learning fun

We live in a world of constant fun. We can watch movies, play video games, and do just about anything we want to do online. Learning should be fun too.

Instead of forcing your child to sit in front of the textbooks or the computer screen all day, encourage them to get out and do something else. Get outside and take a walk together while quizzing them.

Go for a bike ride or take a swim for a break. If they enjoy learning, they will be more apt to study hard and get good grades!

2. Allow your child to make mistakes

Everyone makes mistakes when learning something new. You can’t expect your child to know everything without having made some mistakes along the way.

Encourage them not to be afraid of making mistakes as they learn something new.

3. Set aside time for homework every night

Having time set aside for homework is important so that kids can get it done before bedtime, without sacrificing their playing time.

Try setting a timer for 30 minutes if needed.

Then, after dinner (or before), let them have some free time to play with friends or relax before bedtime.

4. Get your child a planner or calendar

A planner or calendar is a great way for your child to see everything that they have to do, including homework, chores, and even the little things like when to do revision or borrow books from the library!

5. Don’t put too much pressure on your child

Don’t expect your child to be the best student in the class or the smartest kid in their grade. They are not you and they don't need to live up to those expectations!

Be happy with them for who they are and how hard they try. Encourage them to be the best person who they can be and to enjoy learning new things.

6. Talk with your child about their grades

If your child is having trouble with schoolwork, talk with them about it! Let them know you are there for them and that you want to help them work through any problems that they may have.

The more communication there is between parent and child, the better it will be for everyone involved!

7. Allow your child to have a few extra minutes of play time

If your child is working hard on their homework assignments or doing well in school, let them have a few extra minutes of play time before bedtime so that they can relax a little after being so focused all day long.

It’s a great way for kids to unwind from studying so hard all day long.

8. Help your child with their homework

Help your child with their homework by explaining to them what they are doing wrong or asking them questions about the homework so that they can learn how to work on their own.

For example, if your child is having trouble writing a paragraph, have them write the topic sentence and explain why it is important for the paragraph and then have them rewrite it as a full sentence.

You can also ask them questions about what they are doing and why. They will learn a lot from this!

9. Encourage your child to make flashcards

Flashcards are great study tools for children who are studying for tests or quizzes!

Encourage your child to make flashcards of words that they are learning in school so that they can use those flashcards as study tools when studying for tests or quizzes.

10. Don’t give up on your child!

It is easy to get frustrated with your child when they are struggling in school, but don’t give up on them!

It is a hard process for everyone involved, but the more you can encourage them and help them work through their problems, the better off they will be in the long run.

11. Keep a positive attitude about school!

A positive attitude about school is very important for your child to have. If you show them you enjoy learning and that you enjoy going to school, they will be more likely to follow in your footsteps.

Don’t make it seem like something bad or boring. Instead, try to make it fun and exciting!

Work Hard with Your Child

If you follow these tips and encourage your child to work hard in school, they will have a much better chance of getting good grades and learning how to succeed in life!

It may take some time for them to get used to learning this way, but it is worthwhile.
