How To Use Social Intelligence In eLearning

Social intelligence is a set of skills that help you connect with people. These skills include empathy, perspective taking, collaboration, listening, and persuasion.

Empathy

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. In eLearning, empathy can create meaningful connections between you and your learners. By understanding your learners’ feelings and emotions, you can improve your courses to better meet their needs.

Perspective Taking

Perspective taking is the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes to see things from their point of view. In eLearning, perspective taking can help you understand your learners’ needs so that you can better tailor your courses to meet them.

Collaboration

Collaboration is the ability to work with others toward a common goal or purpose. In eLearning, collaboration can improve the content by having multiple people review it for accuracy and clarity. It can also create a more inclusive environment for learning by involving learners in discussions about the course content or asking them questions about it after they complete it.

Listening

Listening is the act of paying attention to what another person says or does without interrupting them or being distracted by other things going on around you.

In eLearning, listening can show your learners that you value their input and ideas. It can also assess your learners’ needs so that you can better tailor your courses to meet them.

Persuasion

Persuasion is the ability to influence people to do what you want them to do by appealing to their emotions and using logic.

In eLearning, persuasion can encourage learners to think about something in a new way or take action on something they were previously resistant to doing.

We closely related the idea of social intelligence to social skills, which are a set of interpersonal behaviors that help us connect with other people. Social skills include things like being polite, saying please and thank you, being a good listener, sharing ideas and feelings, asking questions, showing interest in others, expressing gratitude for others’ efforts, asking for help when needed, etc.

Social skills are also important in eLearning because they allow us to connect with our learners and give them the best possible learning experience.
