5 Inspiring Things Parents Can Do to Encourage Their Children to Find Joy in Learning Chinese

Want to encourage your child to love learning Chinese? Here are some great tips!

1. Get Involved in the Learning Process

A fun way to get your child excited about learning Chinese is to get involved in the process. You can read Chinese books together, do word searches, make flashcards, play games, etc.

All of these things will allow you to interact with your child and build a stronger bond. And what’s more – you’ll be helping them learn! It’s a win-win situation!

2. Read Chinese Books Together

Another way to get involved in the learning process is by reading Chinese books together. If you have time on your hands, why not make it a fun experience?

Pick out a book that you both enjoy and go through it together. Your child will be excited to have your full attention, and there’s no better way for them to learn than from an interested parent who is paying close attention!

In addition, if you take notes as you go along or mark certain passages that are interesting or meaningful for you both.

This will help you recall what has been read at a later date and will also give you something interesting to talk about when the two of you are sitting down for family time!

Reading together can also serve as an important bonding experience for parent and child – one that can be cherished forever!

3. Read Stories Together in Chinese With Your Child Before Bedtime

It’s always nice to end the day with a bedtime story! When it comes time for story time, why not try reading stories in Chinese?

There are many fantastic children’s books available in both Simplified and Traditional characters.

These books are great because they often contain words that are common among children – words like:

小朋友 (xiǎo péng yǒu), which means “little friends”;

吃饭 (chī fàn), which means “to eat”;

下雨 (xià yǔ), which means “to rain”;

玩具 (wán jù), which means “toys”; etc.

Children will enjoy these stories Because they tend to feature their favorite characters such as 老鼠 (lǎo shǔ) – meaning “mouse”

4. Make Flashcards Together

Another fun way to get involved in the learning process is by making flashcards together. It’s a great way to build vocabulary and make learning Chinese more interactive.

If you have time on your hands, why not take out some old magazines and cut out some pictures? Or, if you want to make it a little more exciting, why not take out some scissors and draw a few pictures of your own?

When you’re done, all you have to do is put them into an old shoe box or plastic container!

That way, whenever you have time on your hands, you can sit down with your child and go through the flashcards together. Your child will be excited to see what comes next!

5. Help Your Child Make Their Own Flashcards

A fun activity that will really help encourage your child to learn Chinese is to let them make their own flashcards!

This can be done by simply taking an old shoe box or plastic container and filling it with all sorts of things – photos from magazines, drawings they’ve made themselves, post-it notes, etc.

It’s a great way for them to learn new words while also having fun at the same time!

You can even include things like children’s books in Chinese – like:

小熊维尼 (xiǎo xióng wéi ní) – which means “Winnie the Pooh” –

or 狐狸和狐狼 (hú lí hé hú láng) – which means “foxes and wolves” –

which will make for great conversation starters when you sit down with your child to go through their flashcards!
