Food allergies and sensitivities may also affect your child’s ability to learn, if they are inattentive and have repetitive behavior or poor concentration. Food allergies and sensitivities are very difficult to identify, as there are many symptoms that mimic other illnesses, such as ADD/ADHD or OCD.

Nutritionists strongly recommend that during the school years you eliminate all processed foods from your child’s diet. Buy fresh fruits and vegetables (preferably organic).

Eliminate refined sugars from their diet, as well as artificial colors and flavors. It is possible that these sweeteners can alter brain chemistry, leading to behavioral issues.

Also be aware of salicylates, which are found in processed meats, some fruits and vegetables (such as tomato and peach skins), as well as many medications. Salicylates can cause skin rashes, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

Food allergies seem to be much more common in ADHD children than in other children. If your child has a food allergy or sensitivity this may be the cause of their ADHD symptoms.

It is also important that your child eat enough protein for brain development. Protein is necessary for proper growth and development of the brain and nerves. This would include meat, fish and poultry. Many experts recommend fish because of its omega-3 content.

Eliminate sugar from your child’s diet. It seems to be one of the biggest culprits in ADHD. Sugar affects brain chemistry, and can cause an increase in hyperactivity.

This is because sugar causes a rapid rise in blood glucose levels, followed by a rapid drop, which causes a subsequent release of the hormone adrenaline. When this happens frequently, it can cause changes in behavior and mood.

Minimize the food additives.

Food additives can also contribute to ADHD symptoms. These include artificial colors and flavors, MSG (monosodium glutamate), nitrates and nitrites. Even certain medications contain artificial colors and flavors, and must be monitored by your doctor.

Numerous studies have suggested that sugar increases hyperactivity in children, as well as anxiety and aggression. In fact, studies have shown that children who eat candy are more likely to behave aggressively than those who don’t eat candy.

Other studies have demonstrated that sugar can cause hyperactivity, anxiety or depression in adults as well as children (particularly those with ADHD).

Another study found that eating sweets led to a significant increase in hyperactivity and attention-span problems among children several hours later. The study authors concluded that sugar can cause an “abnormal sensitivity to stimulation”.

Food sensitivities can also cause behavioral problems. Fortunately, these are able to eliminate by following a comprehensive elimination diet, which avoids all foods that your child has a sensitivity to.

In summary, food allergies and sensitivities can cause ADHD symptoms. The symptoms include inattention, hyperactivity, poor concentration and even aggression and depression. Eliminating foods that your child is sensitive to may eliminate these symptoms.

When it comes to your child's well-being, it's best to consult with a professional. To lower the chances of getting inaccurate information or hearing a misconception about a child's growth. It is highly recommended that you conduct preliminary research. Cudy Marketplace is here to help you to connect with the professional counselor easily.
