5 Questions to Ask Your Child’s Teacher During the Parent-Teacher Conference (PTC)

Do you know the answer to the question “what is a parent-teacher conference?”

It is a meeting between parents and teachers to discuss students’ progress and help parents understand their child’s strengths and weaknesses.

A parent-teacher conference also helps teachers to learn more about the child and his/her background.

You will be amazed by what you will learn during this meeting, as it may give you some insights into your child’s development that you didn’t know before.

The five questions we will discuss below will help you in preparing for your next PTC.

1. What are my child’s strengths?

This is one of the most important questions to ask a teacher during a PTC because it will give you an idea of what your child is good at, which may open up opportunities for him/her to do more of what he/she enjoys.

The teacher should be able to tell you what skills or talents your child has. So he/she can grow in those areas and become better at them over time.

This will boost his/her self-esteem as well as make him/her feel good about himself/herself. So make sure you ask this question first!

2. What are my child’s challenges?

A teacher should also be able to tell you about your child’s challenges because they spend most of their time with him/her on a daily basis.

They see first hand how he or she performs in class, how much effort he or she puts into studying, and how he or she reacts when something goes wrong during a test or an exam.

So if the teacher mentions any difficulties that your child is having while studying. Make sure that you listen carefully.

Because these challenges could have been going on for quite some time already without anyone noticing them before now.

Knowing these challenges could help make things easier for both parents and teachers.

As they work together with their children towards improvement instead of just hoping things get better on their own over time!

3. How do I help my son or daughter improve?

Is there anything I can do at home? Or any changes I can make? What are his interests? Do I need to find something new for him? Is there anything that can help him to do better in class?

You can’t expect your child to improve without doing anything about it. He/she needs your help and encouragement to succeed.

This is why it is important for you to ask this question during the PTC because a teacher should be able to tell you what changes you can make at home and how you can help your child get better in class.

You may also want to ask if there are any classes or clubs that your child could join, which will give him/her more opportunities to develop his/her interests and talents further.

This way, he/she will be more interested in learning and doing well in school.

4. How does my son or daughter get along with other students?

Does he or she have any friends? What kind of behavior does he or she exhibit towards other students?

A teacher should be able to tell you about how your child gets along with other students because they are the ones who see first hand how he or she interacts with others.

You may also want to ask if there are any changes that you can make at home that will improve his/her relationship with others so that he/she will be more confident when dealing with them in school.

5. How do I support my son or daughter’s academic performance?

Is there anything I can do at home to help him or her study better? Or is there a tutor I can hire for him/her? What time should I study at home every day?

Is there a place where we can go together for some extra tutoring sessions so that my son or daughter won’t feel left out from his/her classmates who go for tutoring lessons after school every day?

Should I change my work schedule so that I will have more time for tutoring sessions during the weekends?

It is important for parents to support their children’s academic performance. By making sure they understand what they need to do on a daily basis. Especially when it comes to studying and preparing for tests and exams.

If you think about it, most of the questions above are really concerned with how parents should support their children academically, not teachers!

The bottom line is that your involvement in helping your child succeed in school is essential if you want him/her grow up healthy, happy, and successful!
