7 Tips To Create A Self-Paced eLearning Course

A self-paced eLearning course is a way to allow the student to progress at their own pace and decide when they have completed the course.

1. Think about the overall learning objectives of your course

What do you want learners to know, understand, or be able to do when they complete the course? What topics should you cover in the course? What skills do you want learners to develop?

2. Create a rough outline of your eLearning course

The rough outline will help you organize the content and determine how much content you need to create for each topic.

3. Make sure that each lesson has a specific learning objective and associated key points

This is an important part of self-paced eLearning because it helps learners gauge their progress as they work through the material.

4. Create bite-sized chunks of information for each lesson

A good rule of thumb is to keep these chunks short enough so that they can read or view it in 5 minutes or less (but still contain all of the key points).

Another option is to create these smaller chunks into slides or other modules that you can re-use it across multiple lessons if needed.

5. Use the same layout for each lesson

This will help to ensure that learners don't feel confused about where they are in the course.

6. Allow learners to navigate at their own pace.

You can create links within each lesson that allow learners to skip forward or backward through the material as needed. You can also create links that will allow learners to jump to specific sections of the course if they have already completed certain lessons or topics and want to skip ahead.

7. Make sure that it is easy to navigate and follow along

Make sure there are not too many clicks required. Use a consistent navigation bar across all lessons, so that learners know where they are at all times.

The use of self-paced eLearning courses can be a great way to engage students and keep them motivated, however they are only as good as the course designer. With that in mind, by following these tips, you can create a self-paced eLearning course that will help you reach your goals.
