Engaging the Passive Learner

These approaches all have one thing in common: they are all ways to engage the passive learner. The passive learner is someone who does not enjoy the challenge of learning, but is willing to participate when the challenge is increased.

There are many reasons why a student may be passive, and it’s up to you as a teacher to find out what works best for your students. Sometimes it’s just about making the learning more interesting.

This can be done by changing up your teaching style, giving rewards for participation, or changing how you present information. These techniques will work best if you know what motivates your students and what they like and dislike about school.

You can also get passive learners more involved by using cooperative learning groups. These groups usually include a mix of passive and active learners, and require each member to contribute in order for the group to succeed.

With practice, you can increase engagement among even the most disengaged students in your classroom. The important thing is to be consistent and keep an open mind.
