What do private tutors earn in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, India and Sri Lanka?

Private tutors in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, India and Sri Lanka earn a lot more than primary school teachers.

As mentioned before, not only that private tutor salaries are much higher than teaching salaries in the region. But, they also offer a more flexible working schedule, and you do not have to worry about the long hours of work.

The average cost of hiring a private tutor is approx $20-40 an hour. However, the rates vary according to your location and qualifications of the tutors.

In India and Sri Lanka, you can expect to pay between $10-20 an hour for a tutor with minimum teacher training or qualifications. The costs may rise up to $30-$50 an hour for experienced teachers with PHD’s.

In most other countries such as Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. It is not uncommon to pay around $30-$40 per hour, for experienced teachers with experience in teaching students at university level.

Private tutors working in South East Asia can often earn around $100 per class (depending on their experience). Thus, it is almost 4 times higher than the salary of a primary school teacher in these same countries!

In Thailand and Philippines private tutoring is one of the most popular jobs, tutors can easily earn $100-$200 per class. This is quite a good amount of money for people who are able to work on hourly basis.
