Magic Formula for Maths Success in Singapore

It’s still surprising that Singaporean students are not that good at maths. The Singaporean education system is one of the best in the world, but it looks like it’s not enough.

But, let’s say you are a Singaporean student and you want to improve your maths grades. What should you do? How can you increase your maths grades?

Let’s say you want to get a 7 in Maths.

This is what you need to do. Create a maths formula, such as:

  • Studying
  • Revise
  • Learn
  • Practise

Let’s break down each of these.

Studying

This is one of the most important parts of the formula. This is where the formula is formed. And that is where you can discover new things. It's where you build a solid understanding of the topic.

A study session should not be more than 3 hours.

The first 50 minutes should be spent learning the formulae and the concepts while the last 50 minutes should be spent answering questions.

Revise

Revising is very important for your formula. This is where you get to practise what you have learned. You should review your notes and make sure you do not forget what you have learnt.

Revise in the same environment where you studied. This is to ensure that your revision is as effective as possible.

Learn

This is where you actually learn new stuff. You should not spend more than an hour learning new stuff, because you will get bored if you study for too long.

Practise

This is where you get to practise what you have learnt. This is where you will actually use what you have learnt. It is also important to revise the questions that you have got wrong.

How to Maximise the Power of Formula

A formula is not a magic formula. However, you can make it work for you.

Spend 20 minutes trying to understand the formula. This will allow you to fully understand the formula.

Use your formula everyday from the day you create it. This is to ensure that you have a strong foundation in the subject.

Use your formula whenever you need to. You should not be shy to use it.

Formulas are very useful. These are just a few ways that you can use them. Formulas can be used to solve questions in exams, to help you understand the subject and to help you study for tests.
