International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) vs International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)

What is the difference between IGCSE and GCSE?

Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is an international examination board that offers two different types of examinations: GCSE and IGCSE.

While the GCSE is generally taken by students in their final year of secondary school. The IGCSE is for students in their first two years. Both are recognized as a credible qualification for entry into universities worldwide.

The examination board offers both AS-level and A-level courses, which are also popular among students.

The course curriculum at CIE has to determined by Cambridge University, with the intention to offer a course that is rigorous. But not overly challenging for students who have just started secondary school.

For example, it will focus on specific topics in science, rather than on exploring every aspect of a certain field like A-level courses do.

Students can take up to six subjects at one time under the CIE curriculum, which makes it easier for them to plan their course load.

Most schools offer both AS-level and A-level courses under CIE because it allows students to focus on specific subjects early on if they choose to pursue them further later on in their academic career.
