Top 10 universities in India generally have seven to ten distinctions. They are:

1.Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc)

2.Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi

3.University of Delhi, Delhi (DU)

4.Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)

5.IIT, Delhi (IIT-D)

6.Anna University, Chennai (AU)

7.Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur(IIT-KGP)

8.Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur(IIT-K)

9.University of Calcutta, Kolkata( CU)

10.Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai (TIFR)

Additionally Madras, Chennai (IIT-M) and Kharagpur(IIT-KGP) jointly received the third rank for the best engineering college in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2018-2019.

In fact, they are awarded 100 ranks out of total 151 Indian colleges which is a huge achievement for them.

Though they got only fourth and fifth ranks respectively as engineering colleges. But, their overall score was 367.8 as compare to the total score of other colleges.

Including engineering and non-engineering institutions which gets 399.3 points each. They are also ranked highest among all the students from top 10 most popular engineering colleges in India.
